Default FORMAL LETTER QUESTON

A little disagreement with a coworker of mine..hopefully we can get this settled with your help.

Is it appropriate to start a formal letter with "MY" or"I?"

For example, Dear John Doe, My goal is to increase revenue.....

Is there a written rule on this that can be referred to?

As far as I know there is no rule against starting a formal letter with either my or I.

Many formal letters start with the phrase 'I am writing...' so, like Ron, I know of no rule against this.
