| I have been working all day. This statement is in Present Perfect Progressive. Unfinished time. The day has not ended and you are still working. |

| I was sure I hadn't met him before. I was sure: This part of the sentence is in Simple Past, but the second part is in Past Perfect. When using the Past Perfect you refer to two events in the past and one ocurred before the other. In this case, you were first sure and proven wrong about having met him before.
