Question Acronym-like stuff

There is some sort of grammatical phrase or word that describes what I am talking about, but I don't know what it is! It goes like this. AFI is a band. Their name is an acronym of their real band name A Fire Inside. As you can see though, AFI is the first letter of each word, and also the first three letters of spelling it out. Also, with NIN-Nine Inch Nails, another band. I also have a band called Audio Until Deaf, which we make into an acronym of AUD. When spelling it out though, the first three letters to spell it out are A, U, and D to spell the word "audio." If anyone knows what I am talking about or has the answer to me, please, feel free to contact me at EMAIL REMOVED - Send PM to This User Instead seeing that I probably will not check this board post in a very long time! If anyone has the answer to what I am talking about, please, do not hesitate at all to email me and tell me! Thanks!

Talking Re: Acronym-like stuff

Is there a name for a special class/type of acronym that in addition to being a regular acronym, the acronym also matches the the first series of letters in the first word of the phrase used in the acronym?

I think that is what the question is? I think...

NIN
Nine Inch Nails

Interesting. A kind of acronym-cum-abbreviation.

I hope there is a special term; but I don't know it, unfortunately.

In that case, I feel we're at liberty to make a word up.

How about "abbrevonym"?

I did a web search but found nothing.

There ya go Mr. P

But, finding acronyms of this type is a great party game, endless hours of mind racking joy. I gotta get out more.
