Default Don't or haven't?

hi teachers:
When can I use "don't" or "haven't"? What sentence is correct and why? "I don't have five cars" or "I haven't five cars"
Thank you.

I don`t have 5 cars is correct .
The verb "to have " uses the auxiliary [verb] in its conjugation:
e.g.
I have[affirmative]; Do I have?[ interrogative ; I don`t have [negative]

The verb " have got" doesn`t get any auxiliary verb:

I have got[ aff] ;Have I got?[interr.]; I haven`t got [neg.]

Question tag : She has two cats and a puppy, doesn`t she?
: She has got a nice sweater, hasn`t she?

The tendency in ESL grammar is to use the verb " to have " without the auxiliary "do", but I do not agree to that.I am a traditionalist from this point of view ,though ,I can accept changes , transformations in a language[ only Latin is a dead language] but well defined , explained and necessary changes; otherwise there might be huge confussions]
So :

I don`t have five cars - correct
I haven`t got five cars - correct
I haven`t five cars - incorrect [ it sounds odd / unfinished]

All the best,
