    Smile child or kid

    Hello there, Will you please explain the difference in mening and use between the words "kid" and "child".

    "Kid" is informal and usually regarded as non-standard, although it's been with us for quite a long time (Charles Dickens used the word, for example in Oliver Twist). For all formal contexts, you should use "child".
