Smile Seeking your help

Dear all,
I'd like to ask a question spotted on BBC
"As well as the main home there's a theme park and a zoo."
Should not the main verb be "are" instead of is?

Thank you for your time

Joey

No, because the first noun is in singular.

This is an area where's there's a lot of dispute. Some say that 1 + 1 makes it plural, but many feel happier with a singular verb next to a singular verb. I go with Humble on this and would use the singular, but not everyone would agree.
