Default Are they both correct?

I don`t know which pronunciation is right for "direction". Should it be [d i r e...] or [ d a i r e..] ? Are they both right?
I`ve heard these 2 types of pronunciation on CNN , BBC and other pogrammes. Does it depend on the speaker`s nationality [American/ British ] ?

Thank you in advance.

Hello Sheena,

The correct pronunciation is dire-ection in British English. Americans may possibly pronounce it as daire-ection.

Having just tried both pronunciations a few times I realise I alternate!
