Cool not to prolong the problem?

could you plese help me to get the exact meaning of the underlined expresson?( the following sentneces are about whether to keep your relationship or not)

    1. they(volonteers) see exactly what they are dealing with and they do what is necessary to really help, not to prolong the problem.

2.choose commitments both with the parent or judemental, critical thinking method: and the child or romantic, turned on, chemistry method.

    3. often when people are nerouvs they revert back to adolescent behaviours( getting drunk or acting out)

    4. Time to ask what is going on. Don't let up until it comes out. He or she may not even know " what's up just that it doesn't feel good.
(especaily here what does it mean exactly what is up just that it doesn't feel good and what is the function of that)

1.to prolong /extend/ aggravate the problem

2.I did not quite understand #2

3.acting out = misbehaving, bad attitudes
4.donīt let up ( donīt stop, give up,abandon) until it comes out ( until you have the answer to your question)
he or she may not even know whatīs up ( what is happening ) just that it doesnīt feel good ( that something is wrong, uncomfortable , upseting)
