- She was sleeping as soundly as a hibernating bear.
- When Cindy snored she sounded like a freight train.
Those are examples of similes.
Here's another:
- As quiet as a mouse, the cat crept thru the house.

Say:
Here's another:
- He was as nervous as a cat in a room full of rocking chairs.

Sick as a parrot.

How about:
Or:
Those don't make much sense to me either. Unfortunately, those are far from self-explanatory. (Those last two were suggested to me by my wife.)
Is there any way we can change the title of this thread to something more descriptive?
By the way, I have posted some poems in the couplets thread for the purpose of illustrating the use of the simile. Have you seen them?
:)

How about:
- He's as sick as a dog that has been eating rotten horsemeat.
Or:
- He is as sick as a parrot that has been dead for two days.

I'm not an expert in parrots, but we use both 'sick as a dog' and 'sick as a parrot' in BE.

Some fairly common expressions, although well-understood, don't seem to make much sense. One of them is as smart as a whip.
- She's as smart as a whip,
And Cas is also quite hip.
One that is not hard to understand is stubborn as a mule.
- He's as stubborn as a Missouri mule,
And you'd never know Ron has been to school.
Missouri is, of course, known for its mules. One well-known story is about the farmer that was seen hitting his mule with a 2x4. A city slicker happened to see a farmer hitting his mule with a big stick. He asked the farmer why he was doing that. The farmer responded, "Well, first you have to get his attention."
