In a book written in English I read an article entitled "Pisces (The Fishes)". (In the first chapter the book deals with the zodiac etc. so that those who're studying English can learn adjectives describing people and so on.)

My question is, why does it read "The Fishes". I thought that the plural of "fish" is "fish" as well. Is this an exception? Or is it a mistake?

It is an exception. In things like proper nouns, titles, etc., it is common to alter grammar rules for clarity of meaning or effect.

It is an exception here , but otherwise the noun "fish" usually has 2 forms in the plural :fish and fishes [ varieties of fish : mackerel, carp, salmon,etc.]

BTW wnen speaking abt the Zodiac signs people mostly use the Latin word - for example, I am a Pisces.
