"studying in the college is just a preparation for their future’ life"
In the above sentence, why the apostrophe is used. Please explain.
Thanks in advance.

I don`t think that the apostrophy is correctly used here. Where have you read this sentence?

I know that the genetive case is used with expressions of time [among other uses] ;e.g :yesterday`s newspaper, but it`s not the case of your example in which "future" is attributively used.

I`d like to see some experts` advice

See you later,

It must be a typing mistake. Cannot use the apostrophe in this case.

Sorry Matilda but you cannot use the possessive here. Future is used as an adjective in this example, the same way as we would say present life or past life. You can pluralise by saying future lives, etc.

Hi all:

I have taken the sentence from the Toefl free sample work given at http://www.testmagic.com/test/ViewDt...ID=9&TopicID=1

And I don't think it as a typo since the word, future' is repeated again in the same document.

I have looked at the text, and it is an English learner's attempt to write an essay. There are quite a lot of mistakes in it, of which using the apostrophe after future is one.

Hi...There is a confusion, I guess. I agree that there are mistakes. But the essay is written by the TestMagic staff as models for TestMagic TOEFL students. That is what given at http://www.testmagic.com/test/

PS: I am sorry to discuss about TestMagic, which is not the scope of this forum. However I am looking forward to hearing the expert's answer to my question on apostrophe.
