Is there a word for ..?
Can someone out there please help?
Is there an English word for inserting an expletive in the middle of an everyday word?
E.g. abso-bloody-lutely

Re: Is there a word for ..?
Simply put, the word for that would be 'slang'. Keep in mind that your example would be highly in-appropriate in most situations.

Re: Is there a word for ..?
Thanks for that, I do realise how colloquial the question sounded, I can only say that it is a genuine question which stemmed from a linguistic discussion of the modern English language.
Again thanks for your help.

Does anyone else know if there is such a aword please?

Re: Is there a word for ..?
Sorry to differ, but 'abso-bloody-lutely' is not slang, because slang is vocabulary used by a specific group of people, whereas anyone, anywhere, may insert a swear word into another word for emphasis.

Re: Is there a word for ..?
The term you are looking for does exist, and it's a very long and grand-sounding term at that. I know, because I have been told it on several occasions.
Unfortunately, it is so long and grand-sounding that I can't remember what it is. But it does exist.

I found it!
It's called "expletive infixation".
I shall now commit this to memory.
