Is there a single word in english referring to a situation when a stranger starts talking to you in the street"? Do we just say "You know, I was walking home last night and a woman started talking to me......" ? While cooking and there are no exact rules as to how much of some ingridient should be used, how to say that someone should do in intuitelvely? In Poland people say "do as your eye tells you" like: "Oh they say it this recipee that I should add some water but they did not mention how much water. What do you thing? Do as your eye tells you" . Thanks for any advice!

For the first situation we might say:
..some woman came up to me..
..some woman approached me..
..some woman accosted me.. (not used often because it suggests aggression)

For the second situation we might say:
..eyeball it..
..estimate it..

For the recipe question, in addition to "eyeball it", we also say "guesstimate" (a play on the words "guess" and "estimate"), or sometimes "pinch and dash," meaning there is no exact measure, we just add a bit of this or that.

For your second question, we Americans often borrow an idiom from music and say, "play it by ear," which means pretty much the same thing as your "do what your eye tells you."
