Default responsible direction

"Our regiment is attacking Bastogne frontally through the village Marvie. This is the most responsible direction. The Yankees got plenty of anti-tank guns and bloody bazookas, what makes us a little nervous as we know victory won’t be easy."

what does responsible direction mean?

Default Re: responsible direction

It sounds to me like the writer means that direction of attack is the wisest choice, although "responsible" is not a word I would use in this case.
