    allied soldiers talking :
    "the group is to approach the flank of German defense and to wig them."

    what is the meaning of "wig" in this context?

    Agree totally with Teia, but I really cannot see how this verb fits the context. I am guessing, but I think it is a misprint for the verb wing, which means to wound superficially. So in the context the intention is to cause some harm to the enemy's defences, but not completely defeat them.
