Default two questions

Hi,

1. This question is addressed to both English natives and also to all members of this site no matter what nationality they are. Please feel free to give your opinion on the following question .
What is the most important place / building etc. a tourist should visit or see when in London for the first time?

Is it Trafalgar Square, Westminster Abbey..or..?

2. How do you usually pronounce Trafalgar?

Thank you

Hello Teia

I would prefer to see Trafalgar Sq. Then there's something interesting in all directions (Soho, Covent Garden, etc.).

"Trafalgar" is usually pronounced with the stress on "-fal-". The first "-a-" and the "-ar" are schwas; the "-al-" is pronounced with a short a, as in the "al" in words of Arabic origin.

(I feel I've made that more complicated than it needed to be!)

See you,

MrP

Worked for me MrPedantic! Only other thing is that of course the g is the hard sound as in gun. Also a great choice of first place to visit as it is not only interesting in itself but also very useful as a central reference point to many of the other highlights of London which are close by.
