Default Proper use of "I am coming"

Hi,

Please see the following sentence:

"I am coming from a profession that deserves respect. I also deserve respect," she said.

Should this be "I come from a profession ..."?

If someone says "I am coming from New York"
it would be correct, but the use of "I am coming" in the above sentence does not seem to be correct. But I don't know the
reason for it.

Thanks

"I come ..." is correct because "I am coming" refers to action being taken place at this point in time. If someone were to say "I am coming from New York" then one should assume that they are traveling at the time they are saying this.
