Question opposite

please tell me which one is correct.
1. My school is opposite to the police station.
2. My school is opposite the police station.

i think you can also say:
My school is in the opposite of the police station

Both are correct, but 2 is probably the more commonly used. Sorry to the other contributors but you cannot say in the opposite to/of/for. You can say, for example, My friend lives in the opposite house/in the house opposite.
