Hi! I need help with the meaning of the phrase "to issue credit"
At first I thought it stands for giving credit, but it didn't make sense in the context (Could you issue 100 USD credit? To avoid confusion we'll pay on receiving your answer).
I've learnt that it may stand for compensating for the returned or spoiled goods.
Can it mean reduction on an invoice?
Could you help me to find out which of those are correct
Customer: "This invoice is incorrect. You billed my account for two machines and I only received one."
Salesman: "No problem, sir, we will issue credit immediately (reverse the charge on your account) and you will only owe us for one machine."
or this:
Customer: "This hotel is the worst I have ever stayed in. How can you charge me two hundred dollars a night for such an awful room?"
Manager: "I am very sorry that you are unhappy. We will issue a credit to your account for half the room charge. You'll only have to pay one hundred per night."
