Hi. There are situations where someone will not accept a cheque unless they can see some proof of identity. This can be a credit card, but why write a cheque if you have a credit card - unless you are worried about interest payments.

I am guessing that you may mean credit card check. This is where the seller finds out whether you have a valid credit card and the price of what you want to purchase is within the credit limit of your card. The confusion may be because a cheque (paper version) in BE is a check in AE.

Some banks and credit card companies send their good customers blank checks (cheques) that customers can use to purchase items and services. The funds for these checks come from the customer's line of credit, not from his checking account.

Conversely, some banks issue what is called debit cards or check cards. These are credit cards that are not tied to a line of credit. When a customer makes a purchase with one of these cards, the funds are drafted (draughted) immediately from his checking (let's not do this again) account.
