Question remain on the surface

Hi,

Is it possible to use "to remain on the surface" figuratively, i. e. in the sense "superficially"?? If you find more mistakes in my sentence, please tell me..

"It is to expand the recent research done on the BOHM, which expresses new and important ideas, but remains often on the surface and does hardly include secondary literature in its discussions."

Thanks a lot.
AL

No. That mystifies instead of clarifies.
