Please,you can answer the following question.
In the fırst half of the 20th century many scıentısts .... liquid crystal as chemical impurities with no scientific or practical merit
a)put down
b)wrote off
c)let go of
d)left out

To write something off, means to disregard it, consider it unimportant, or ignore it.

b) is the only correct answer here.

I'd agree that B is the best answer. But the question seems a little odd to me. Something seems to be missing, where I've put "XXX".

Perhaps:

2. In the fırst half of the 20th century many scıentısts wrote off liquid crystals as substances full of chemical impurities with no scientific or practical merit.

I think it means ...wrote off liquid crystal as [merely] chemical impurities...
