Default past tense

when telling a story from past to present, how will i know if the verb will change from past to present?

Could you give us an example? Your intention is unclear.

From what you have said so far, I can only explain that a story told in the past will be in past tense (The Big Bad Wolf huffed, and he puffed...) and a story told in the present will be in present tense (The Big Bad Wolf huffs, and he puffs...).
