    Talking 225-obsidian

    Hello all

I need to know the meaning of (obsidian). In Persian (Iranian) dictionary, we don't have it. But according to a search in the internet, I understood that it should be a kind of stone.
Hope an Iranian help me with an Iranian meaning.

    Thank you all

    Hi Matilda,

It's not a stone - it's a hard, black volcanic glass material formed from molten lava. People sometimes say "his heart was as black as obsidian", for example.

I had seen in some museum that the native Americans (American Indians)
used weapons made from it (such as an arrowhead).

Now, according to Wikipedia, it is used in cardiac (heart) surgery
because it produces cleaner cuts and the tissue heals faster.
It is also used as gemstone. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Obsidian
