Default (3) What does this sentence mean?

"Another type of publication which helps keep the population informed is the magzine."
I don't understand "help" used in the sentence mentioned above.If the sentence above does not have "keep", I am ok. "KEEP" makes me complicated.
I have already known the following sentences:
This website helps me learn English.
She helps me with my lessons.
Please help me with explaination of this sentence.

Look at it written a different way:

"Another type of publication which helps the population to stay informed is the magazine."

So 'keep' in your sentence means to 'stay in a certain condition'.
