Here are three examples. Try to work out the difference between the versions in each case, and post your answers; then we'll check them for you:
1a. I like to eat cheese.
1b. I like eating cheese.
2a. I started to walk across the field.
2b. I started walking across the field.
3a. I tried changing the washer, but the tap still dripped.
3b. I tried to change the washer, but couldn't undo the nut.
