You need to look in your grammar books at the use of the past participle and present participle as adjectives. These can have very different meanins, with bored and boring being good examples.
He was boring last night - describes how the person was, or behaved.
He was bored last night - describes how he felt.
This is quite a big subject, and very important, so deserves some time spent understanding the rules.
