| What does this "is finding the ambivalence a strain" here. Second request what does that sentence mean "The European Union, which has long assumed that Turks craved membership, has only slowly become alert to the danger that, at some price, they would not — as polls now show. " Thanks |

| There is an ambivalence in the EU about Turkey's joining- some are in favour, but some ae opposed, which means that it is hard to say whether they are wanted by the EU, which makes it difficult for Turkey to know where they stand with the EU. |
