"with" and "by"

hi, i am now confusing about when shall i use " with" and " by"

ex: i was bounded by a rope ? or with a rope?

i am consingsing what is the difference between them both?
when shall we use "with" and when should we use "by"?

Passive: I was bound by a rope. <subject>

Active: The robber bound me with a rope. <subject>
Passive: I was bound with a rope by the robber. <instrument>
