    Question verbs.

    Dear sir,
I came across the following two English sentences but do not understand the reason for using the verb "be" in the third person plural just as it is being used in the third person singular. The two sentences are:

    1. There's friends everywhere.
    2. There's only children here.

Thank you in advance for your explanation.

    Hi Fun,

You'll hear this "There's + plural noun" structure a great deal in spoken English, among all levels of speakers. It's actually somewhat more common than "There're/There are + plural noun".

The same thing happens with, Here's; Where's; How's.
