Question What does "poised to usher" mean?

    Hi there,

Recently I read a phrase "poised to usher" in a sentence. eg. The world community is poised to usher into being, for the first time in history.
The European Union is poised to usher in the biggest change in international aviation in more than half a century that will unblock the long delayed consolidation of the airline business

What does "poised to usher" mean?
