Default i need help on a potted critical comment!!

i am trying to write a potted critical comment for the scythe, i have to mention mankinds obsession with the darker side of life and pessimism

'Potted' means 'brief' in BE, but I'm not sure I grasp the question fully.

If it's supposed to be brief then you have to avoid redundancy, and "obsession with the darker side of life and pessimism" seems to me to be already redundant.
