It's considered a euphemism for the word f**king. It's still not necessarily polite, but it isn't really vulgar. They'll say "frigging" on some TV shows. A less questionable substitute for the "F" word is "freaking." "I can't freaking believe he said that!"

frigging Hi,
Is the word 'frigging' very vulgar? Is it as bad as the word 'fucking'?

Re: frigging For a children's book, I think "freaking" would be acceptable. Most likely you'd say "feakin'", as kids tend to drop their final "g". "Frigging" would definitely not be suitable for a children's book.

Re: frigging It's not used so much in British English in this sense. Maybe that's because we prefer stronger language.
