The original sentence would be better with 'the cold' or 'to feeling cold' IMHO.![]()
I have different view with someone over this sentence.
" I am accustomed to being cold "
I don't think this is a correct sentence, and my argument is ' accustomed to ' should be followed by a noun or ' being ' + ' past participle '
So, It will become " I am accustomed to the cold or coldness " or another example
I am accustomed to being scolded. :) as ' being scolded ' is a phrase modifying the subject ' I ' ?
I wonder if my understanding serves me right ?

I think "I am accustomed to being cold" is perfectly okay. It might not be as common as some other usages, but it is not, I think, incorrect. "I am accustomed to being happy" or "I am accustomed to being tired" follow the same pattern and are also good.
:)
But being happy or being tired serve as adj phrase modiying the subject. They refer to a state of being of the subject.
But being cold doesn't sound like it ?
They are all adjectives modifying the subject. I don't think the sentence in question is as common as something like I am used to the cold, but I don't think it is incorrect.Originally Posted by whl626
