Red face Right word?

i came across a sentence as follows:
i have a heading in a document as "Overview".The sub heading is given as "Principles".
I am not too comfortable with this subheading.
The subheading follows with a figure with this text
Figure <> shows the principle diagram of <>
can you suggest an another word for principles...

Does the subheading refers to the laws or rules or methods to be followed?
Please clarify. also, provide an example of a principle , if possible

Question Re: Right word?

there are no examples as such which i can give.
just that after the subheading Principles, a figure is displayed with the figure caption as
Figure <> shows the principles of the pin assignments
then right after the figure, the following text appears
The basic principles of the pin assignment are as follows:
  • dddd
  • dd
  • fff
is it clear?

I believe Principles here referes to the laws governing pin assignments.
It seems to be a technical document. I am a Technical writer and I strongly suggest that you retain Principles as it is the accepted form.
