Default Group competition

Hello. My name is Marta. I am English student and a teacher to be. I am writing a diploma paper on group competition. I am trying to find out if it can help students to participate in the lesson. I would be greatfull for any tips and suggestions. Thank you

What age group will your students be?

(Say: "I am an English student and a teacher-to-be.")

I am not certain what is meant by group competition. Are the students divided into groups that compete against each other? I think that would be good if it means that the students in each group help each other. I remember that at Froebel Branch (fourth and fifth grade) we were talking about opposites and one girl explained to another that it means the other way around. Sometimes the kids will help the teacher.

I don't have much in the way of classroom experience. Maybe Tdol will contribute something.

*grateful*

I'm not sure what is meant here, either. It isn't a fixed term- I presume it means activities involving the group where there is an element of competition, which can push students to strive harder. It can help students, though there are other factors, like age which might affect this- I don't particularly enjoy group activities and don't enjoy taking part in them when I'm on training courses. It also matters how well the group know each other and cultural differences.

Group work, when it goes well, works very well, but if it goes wrong can be disastrous. Where are you from, BTW, and your students?

  • Me

Yesterday, I climbed up a tree.
Who did it? Why, it was me!
I'm the one that did the climbing.
It was me that people were watching.
    I've got hands for handling.
    I've got legs for walking.
I've got a nose for smelling.
I've got a mouth for talking.
    We have words for everything.
    We have words for telling
    One thing from another,
    Like mother, father, sister, brother,
So we can name them especially.
Now, as you can clearly see,
I'm one, not two or three.
Because I'm not you. I'm me.
    We have eyes for seeing
    And ears for hearing
Dogs that bark and birds that sing.
We have a name for every thing.
Every single person has a name.
In some ways we are the same.
    In others we are different.
Now I have said just what I meant.
Now, your name is yours. That's fine.
Now, my name is only mine.
I have my own, don't you see?
It's not yours. It belongs to me.

    :)
