infinitive or gerund?

could you please tell me which of these is correct:

1) He committed himself to fulfil ...
2) He committed himself to fulfilling ...

I suspect this has been answered recently in another thread. Perhaps someone with more detailed knowledge of the web-site than I will post a pointer.

2 is right. Some commitments take a gerund, and others take an infinitive:
"he committed himself to fulfilling" but "he promised to fulfil".
