Default Comprehension

Dear teachers,

Please read the following sentence:

He had a job selling subscriptions TO the Houston Post.

Since we have the word 'to' in the sentence instead of 'for' I guess it means:

He help the Houston Post to sell the newspaper by making custmers to subsribe to the Houston Post. He kept the subscriptions first. Then he gave the subcriptions to the Houston Post and the Houston Post gave him certain amount of money for his work.

Is that right?

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Thank you in advance.

Jiang

It's OK- the idea is that he was selling subscriptions to the paper to other people.
