Default automatic recognition of the linguistic cues

I just want to know what does it mean by "automatic recognition of the linguistic cues"? And how does it help student to read with better comprehension and speed. Somebody please help me....

If people can respond automatically, then their speed will be greater because they do not consciously have to work things out. However, without more context, it is hard to say what these clues are meant to refer to.
