| I have never heard of this. As far as I know, the only ways to use "get up" are like this: As a verb I get up at 6:00 every morning (=wake up) I got up and walked over to where he was (=stand up) get up sb's nose He gets up my nose (=he annoys me, BrE & AusE, <INFORMAL>) As a noun He couldn't work in this get-up (=ridiculous pair of clothes, <INFORMAL>,notice the hyphen) EDIT: How about that...You were right. I found it in this sentence: "People got up a petition". Used in BrE. You learn something new every day |
