In the last thread I posted, Mariner said the "come" in the sentence "that says there's a tremendous longing to find the heart of the story in the story of Jesus, and the search for God come among us - I really think there's a strong longing for that." is a past participle, but I don't know why the past participle of "come" can be used in this way. Could Mariner or anyone else explain more clearly how "come" is used in here and give me more examples of "come" used in this way? In addition to this question, I also want to ask what does the "that" in the sentence "I really think there's a strong longing for that." refer to? Does it refer to "God come among us" or "finding the heart of the story in the story of Jesus"?
Thanks for answering my questions.
First the easier one...
"that" refers to the "to find the heart of the story in the story of Jesus, and the search for God come among us"
As for the past participle...
Perhaps you'll understand better if I use an example with other verbs...
"Tomorrow we'll eat the food bought today"
"A penny saved is a penny earned" (B.Franklin)
"Cars manufactured in India are cheaper than those manufactured in Germany"
"Come" follows the same logic.
But the verbs you listed are transitive, and you can say people buy/save/earn/manufacture something, but how can you say "people come God"? Or how can you say "something is come by someone"?
