Default grammar, prepositon question (UDS Science)

Roger Revelle’s calculations about what happens to the carbon dioxide released ---- the burning of fossil fuels were correct ---- showing that much of it would end up in the sea.
A) from / with
B) by / in
C) to / by
D) in / for
E) through / about
The question is taken from an official language proficiency test, ÜDS, prepared by OSYM. In Turkey there is a discussion about three possible answers: A, B and E. Could you share your opinions about the right answer and the possibility for the others?

Thank you very much in advance.

Break it down. Possibilities for the collocation "released ___" (considering any normal context but discounting extremely unlikely contexts):

A B C D E (the only "released to" I know of is "released to the wild" which would normally, I think, be "released back to the wild" or "returned to the wild")

Possibilities for the collocation "correct ___" (ditto):
A B C D E (I imagine some corpuses admit "correct with", but it really needs a comma)

The only unequivocal pair of is B; the dubious possibilities of D and E are ruled out by the context.

I agree with Bob that B is the only correct answer. More importantly, Bob gave you the process by which you should analyze these types of questions. That is more valuable than the answer.

Thanks Mike. Having been turned down for a job only yesterday on the grounds that I didn't have the requisite technical grounding, I really value the vote of confidence.
