The verb form "been" is the past participle of "be". It is used with the auxiliary verbs have/has/had to create the perfect tenses of "be".

I have been here before.
John has been drinking.

The verb form "be" can be used in a variety of situations that require the base form (infinitive form) of a verb.

1. With modal/semimodal auxiliary verbs (can be, could be, must be, should be, shall be, may be, might be, will be, would be, dare be)

2. In the future tense: will be, shall be

3. In the present subjunctive: I demand that they be here on time.
If this be treason....
