"he has a baby boy here, watching on."
does it mean that the "he" is taking care of his kid or that the kid is looking at his father (who is doing a show, actually).

Not sure what exactly is meant here, but perhaps the expression would be 'looking on'. If you are 'looking on' it means you are watching what is going on. So maybe the baby is watching his father as he performs in the show?
