Dear friends,
i am a little bit confused about the difference of "though" & "even though". for example:
1.He went out, even though it was raining.
2.I like her, even though she can be annoying.
3.Even though his mother is waiting for him to eat his supper, he won’t leave the TV set.
In the above sentences, can i replace "even though" with "though"?
Thanks a lot.
You can- 'even' just serves to emphasise the contrast and make it stronger.
.
Even though this is just a gut feeling, I'd say that "even though" tends to be the preferred choice in spoken English (AmE).
.
In spoken American English, the word "though" would tend to be used mainly to mean "however" (or used with as: "as though").
.
The usage might be a little different in BE, though.![]()
.
We use it like that at the end for 'however'.![]()
Appreciate.
