Default cultural origine of idioms

hello,
i am a student in foreign languages and i have to do a report about translation.i chose to study idioms about animals ,to compare to french ones and to explain the differences with the origin of the langauge and the cultural differences.i have few problem to find the origins of english idioms.
could you help me?
