Time reference - at the beginning or end?

I have just heard an interesting comment and wanted to get some other opinions. A friend just said the 'time references' in a sentence should go at the beginning of a sentence not the end.

For example:

Many times the boys grandmother had seen the girl in the picture.

The boys grandmother had seen the girl in the picture many times.

Are there any rules about this? Can anyone give me advise or are they both OK?

Both sentences are fine. Your friend's statment is simply an opinion.

The first sounds a bit less colloquial to me, but I agree with Mike that both are fine.
