Default should "the" be used or not?

Legendary Clint Eastwood or
the legendary Clint Eastwood?
I`m a bit confused about this usage because i`ve come across both examples and am not sure which one is more appropriate.

Usually, it would be "the legendary Clint Eastwood".

As Mike said, the article here is needed. Don't confuse it with cases like "Doctor Smith", "Judge Smith", etc.

However, you might read/hear something like that (i.e. Legendary Clint Eastwood) as a first mention in <journalism> register. Something like:

"Legendary Clint Eastwood was also seen at the party"
