Hi there. What does it mean "in this regards"? And shouldn't it be "in these regards"?

Hi - looks to me as though it ought to be "in this regard". Have never seen in in the plural.
OK. When can we use "in this regard" then? CALD gives
in this/that regard FORMAL
in this particular way:
The union is the largest in the country and in this/that regard is best placed to serve its members.
However, I have seen different meaning of this phrase, like
"I had completed my project two years ago, but I worked in this regard for a next couple of months."
Here it would stand for "on this topic" or something like that. But from CALD's definition it follows that it is an incorrect use. Is it?
