The following sentences are about an article which introduces world famous spa and I am not sure what it means. can anybody help me?

Others come to use the mud for cosmetic purposes and it has now been incorporated in a range of beauty products. A vareity of walks takes the place of the more sophisticated pursuits available in my spa towns.

The first says that some people go the spa to use the mud to make their skin look better; this mud has now become an ingredient in many beauty products.

The other is not so clear. It appears to be say that there are several walking tours/paths for recreation.
